For those of you who thought that everyone living in Florida has gray hair and walks with a cane, think again! Granted there are many counties in the state where the majority of the residents are retirees, but there are some areas where the population is younger than the national median age of 37.3. Amongst these younger places is our very own Winter Garden, that came in as 4th best city for young families in Florida, rising up from 14th place just last year. Median family incomes grew more here than any other place in the state. Along with affordable housing and excellent schools, families with children have been making the population jump.
Winter Garden is a great place to raise a family with so much to do. It’s just minutes away from the many theme parks in the area – Disney, Universal and SeaWorld – but also offers many activities of it’s own, hosting family-friendly festivals and parades. It has a charming historical downtown area with quaint shops and diverse restaurants offering outside dining. It’s reminiscent of small-town America where there’s a little something for everyone.
Every Friday evening there’s free live music and every Saturday morning a Farmers Market. Kids love the Splash Park! History buffs love the Winter Garden Heritage Museum and the Central Florida Railroad Museum, both of which offer free admission. Get your fill of nature on the 22 mile converted railroad track known as the West Orange Trail for biking/walking/running or the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. Great shopping and dining can be found at Winter Garden Village at Fowlers Grove.
